EFL matches to look out for

It is the penultimate weekend in both League One and League Two and we have some major permutations up and down the three divisions of the EFL. The Championship does, though, still have a couple of weeks to go.

As we have done throughout the campaign, this is our look ahead to one of the standout matches from each of the three leagues ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures…

CHAMPIONSHIP

Blackburn Rovers vs Sheffield Wednesday | 12.30pm on Sunday

We have a huge six-pointer in the second-tier on Sunday afternoon. John Eustace’s Blackburn Rovers pulled off a mega surprise last weekend as they edged past Leeds United by a goal to nil at Elland Road with a late winner from the league’s top scorer Sammie Szmodics. The Lancastrians are five points clear of the bottom three and the relegation places with three games to go. Sheffield Wednesday are one of the two sides, alongside Birmingham City, sitting five points below Rovers in the table. The Owls have been really steady since the appointment of Danny Rohl and will be backed by 7,000 supporters at Ewood Park this weekend.

LEAGUE ONE

Cambridge United vs Derby County | 3pm on Saturday

League One finishes next weekend with both of these teams potentially completing their season’s goals this weekend. Garry Monk’s Cambridge United begin the weekend sitting five points clear of Cheltenham Town but the Robins have three games to play so Cambridge are still under a bit of pressure after an improvement in their recent form. Derby County are sitting three points clear of Bolton Wanderers and have a much better goal difference so the Rams know that basically two victories will see them automatically promoted to the Championship and they finish at home to bottom-of-the-table Carlisle United next weekend.

LEAGUE TWO

Sutton United vs Crawley Town | 3pm on Saturday

Not only is this one a local derby, it is also essential at both ends of the table as we come to the end of the League Two season. Sutton United begin the match day sitting four points behind Colchester United with the U’s having a game-in-hand, too, but Sutton can move a point behind Colchester this weekend with the Essex club travelling to Meadow Lane to face Notts County. Crawley Town are one of the teams in the hunt for the top seven and the playoff places. They come into this one on the back of a 1-1 draw with Barrow and they are now winless in their last three matches as they sit seventh just a point and a place above Walsall in the League Two table.

As an en-GB football fan, I have to say I'm nervous for both Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield Wednesday in this crucial match. Blackburn's recent win against Leeds was impressive, but will they be able to maintain their lead and secure their spot in the Championship And can Sheffield Wednesday pull off a win and climb out of the relegation zone The stakes are high and I can't wait to see how it all plays out on Sunday.

Wow, what a thrilling end to the season it's shaping up to be in the EFL! The Championship still has a couple of weeks left, but League One and Two are coming down to the wire. As a football fan, I can't help but feel optimistic about the potential outcomes for all the teams involved. This match between Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield Wednesday is a must-watch, with both teams fighting for survival. It's always exciting to see a late winner, and Sammie Sz

As a football fan, this is a crucial match for both teams in the Championship. Blackburn Rovers have pulled off a surprise win against Leeds United last weekend, giving them a five-point lead from the relegation zone. But with three games to go, the pressure is still on for both teams to secure their spot in the league next season. Let's hope for a nail-biting and intense match on Sunday!
