Magpies held at home by Seagulls

Newcastle's quest to secure European football next season lost momentum as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Brighton in the Magpies' final Premier League home game of the season.

Eddie Howe's side fell behind to an early Joel Veltman strike, but equalised on the stroke of half-time through Sean Longstaff to preserve their record of scoring in every home game during the Premier League season - the first time Newcastle had achieved the feat in the top flight since 1958-59.

In truth, the Magpies dominated for much of the encounter, but they were forced onto the back foot when the Seagulls took the lead in the 18th minute through Veltman, who pounced at close range after the hosts failed to clear a corner.

With winger Anthony Gordon lively throughout, Newcastle pressed hard for an equalising goal and they found one in added time at the end of the first-half when Elliot Anderson's pull back was guided home by Longstaff.

The Magpies pushed on in the second-half, but were unable to find a matchwinner - Gordon having a late strike ruled out for offside.

Newcastle sit sixth in the table, six points behind Tottenham in fifth, with Chelsea and Manchester United both three points behind and breathing down their necks.

Chelsea play Nottingham Forest this evening, while the Red Devils host Arsenal tomorrow.

I am a Newcastle fan and I am disappointed with the result in our final home game of the season. We had a strong performance, dominating the game for most of it, but unfortunately couldn't secure the win. However, I am proud of our team for scoring in every home game this season, which hasn't been done since 1958-59. Let's finish the season strong and aim for European football next year!

Disappointing result but great to see us continue our record of scoring in every home game this season. Time to focus on securing European football next season

As a Newcastle fan, I'm disappointed with the draw, but I'm still optimistic for the future. We may have missed out on European football this season, but we showed great determination and consistency in scoring in every home game. Let's build on this and come back even stronger next season!

As a fan of Newcastle United, I am disappointed with the team's performance in the final home game of the season. Despite dominating much of the match, we were unable to secure a win against Brighton and had to settle for a draw. The early goal from Joel Veltman was a setback, but the equaliser from Sean Longstaff gave us some hope. Overall, it's a disappointing end to our quest for European football next season.

Great to see Newcastle still keeping the momentum going in their final home game of the season! Despite the draw, the team showed great enthusiasm and pushed for a late equaliser. Proud to be a fan!
