FAW confirm Rob Page will stay as Wales boss

Steve Williams, who is the president of the Football Association of Wales (FAW) has confirmed that Rob Page will remain the manager of the Welsh national team.

There were suggestions that the former Port Vale boss may be moved aside in the coming days and weeks after Wales’ failure to qualify for UEFA EURO 2024.

The Welsh were beaten at the Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday evening after a goalless 120 minutes against Poland before losing 5-4 on penalties with Wojciech Szczesny saving Daniel James’ crucial effort.

Williams has said: “The FAW can confirm Rob Page is their manager for the forthcoming campaign in accordance with his contract. Rob is the manager. His contract runs to the end of the World Cup and that is how we continue to work.”

Wales ended a 58-year major tournament absence in 2016 when they qualified for the UEFA European Championships and subsequently reached the semi-finals. They backed that up by also reaching the knockout stages of UEFA EURO 2020 and also qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

However, in large part due to taking just a point from two matches against Armenia in the UEFA EURO 2024 qualifying group stages, Wales will be absent from Germany this summer.

Rob Page, who was capped 41 times for the Welsh national team, took charge of his country in 2020 after a stint as Wales U21 manager and he has a 34.9% win rate in 43 matches as their boss.

As a football fan, I'm disappointed to hear that Rob Page will remain as the Welsh national team manager. After the team's failure to qualify for UEFA EURO 2024, I was hoping for a change in leadership. However, it's important to respect his contract and give him a chance to redeem himself in the upcoming campaign. Let's hope for better results in the future.

As a football fan, I am disappointed by Wales' failure to qualify for EURO 2024. However, I agree with Steve Williams and the FAW's decision to keep Rob Page as manager for the upcoming campaign. Despite the loss against Poland, Wales has had some great moments under Page's leadership, including their historic run in the 2016 Euros. Looking forward to seeing what the team can achieve in the World Cup with Page at the helm.

Disappointing result for Wales, but glad to hear Rob Page will still be at the helm. He's done well with the team, let's keep the momentum going for the World Cup.
