Fulham endured a frustrating afternoon at Craven Cottage on Saturday afternoon, as Bruno Guimaraes' strike earned Newcastle a 1-0 win in London.
Well-beaten by Nottingham Forest last time out, hosts Fulham burst out of the blocks seemingly intent on righting the wrongs of that 3-1 reverse midweek.
The Cottagers were quickly on the front foot and won a series of corners, Brazilian winger also driving an effort wide of the target as Marco Silva's side made a threatening start.
Newcastle did offer sporadic raids forward - Anthony Gordon sweeping a 25 yard effort wide the post, but the home side were still enjoying the better of the exchanges and a mistake from the Magpies gifted the in-form Rodrigo Muniz a clear sight of goal, but his effort was straight at visiting keeper Martin Dubravka.
Half-time: Fulham 0-0 Newcastle
The game swung both ways after the break, but Eddie Howe's Newcastle made a much better fist of it in terms of their attacking play.
Magpies defender Fabian Schar had the ball in the net around the 70 minute mark, but the goal was chalked off for a push by Dan Burn following a VAR review.
Undeterred, Newcastle pushed for a breakthrough and they eventually grabbed their matchwinner thanks to Brazilian midfielder Guimaraes - the former Lyon man drilling home a low strike after the ball had broken to him 12 yards out.
Silva's Fulham pushed for an equaliser, but ultimately came up short, Newcastle remaining a solid eighth in the top flight after a valuable win.
