Luton on verge of relegation after West Ham defeat

Luton Town's hopes of staying in the Premier League took a severe blow following a 3-1 loss to West Ham United at the London Stadium.

The visitors made a promising start to the game, taking the lead in the sixth minute when Alfie Doughty's cross found Sambi Lokonga, who scored with a diving header past Alphonse Areola.

However, the Hammers improved in the second half and equalsed nine minutes after the restart through James Ward-Prowse.

David Moyes' side took the lead midway through the half when Tomas Soucek volleyed home with his weaker foot after Ward-Prowse's cross was partially cleared.

Just moments after coming on, academy graduate George Earthy capitalised on a brilliant run from Mohammed Kudus to secure the victory for the hosts, providing a fitting conclusion to Moyes' tenure at home.

With this result,  Luton find themselves three points behind the safety line with only one game remaining in the season.

If Nottingham Forest, whose goal difference is considerably better, manage to secure at least a draw in their upcoming match against Chelsea, the Hatters will be relegated to the Championship.

As a Luton Town fan, I'm absolutely gutted by this result. It's a massive blow to our hopes of staying in the Premier League. We had a good start but couldn't hold on. Congrats to West Ham, but we deserved more.

As a Luton Town fan, seeing our hopes of staying in the Premier League take a hit is devastating. We started off strong, but unfortunately couldn't hold onto the lead. Congrats to West Ham, but it's a tough pill to swallow for us. We'll keep fighting till the end though.
