Two blunders by Blackburn goalkeeper Aynsley Pears helped Sheffield Wednesday edge out of the Championship's bottom three for the first time since the opening day of the season.
Pears gifted Owls forward Josh Windass the opener and, although the second tier's top scorer Sammie Szmodics levelled for Rovers, Marvin Johnson restored the visitors' lead before Blackburn's hapless stopper sliced an attempted clearance into his own net.
Wednesday's win was just their second in their previous eight games, but their destiny this season is in their own hands now.
Defeat, however, means Blackburn require four points from their remaining two games to be certain of safety this season.
In fact, with two games of the season remaining, SEVEN teams are in with a mathematical chance of going down.
Stoke and QPR, 17th and 18th respectively, look likely to stay in the second tier after crucial wins this weekend.
However, it looks likely to go to the wire and Birmingham's clash at Huddersfield next weekend could well decide one or both sides' futures.
Here are the remaining two fixtures for all seven sides currently in the Championship relegation mix.
Stoke: Southampton (a), Bristol C (h)
QPR: Leeds (h), Coventry (a)
Blackburn: Coventry (h), Leicester (a)
Plymouth: Millwall (a), Hull (h)
Sheff Wed: West Brom (h), Sunderland (a)
Birmingham: Huddersfield (a), Norwich (h)
Huddersfield: Birmingham (h), Ipswich (a)
