Newcastle United cut Tottenham Hotspur apart at will in a dominant victory at St James' Park.
Spurs may have had the most of the ball in Newcastle but Eddie Howe's side never let them create any notable chances and instead were clinical going forward.
The Magpies took the lead through the exciting Alexander Isak in the 31st minute. Micky van de Ven, who had a difficult afternoon overall, was backtracking but slipped allowing Isak to have space to fire past Guglielmo Vicario.
Just seconds later, Newcastle scored a remarkably similar goal. This time it was Anthony Gordon who took advantage of Van de Ven's fall to curl his effort into the net.
Newcastle went into half-time with a much-deserved two-goal lead and they added to that early into the second period.
Isak won a sprint race with Van de Ven from the halfway line after a long ball forward and was then able to coolly apply the finish to make it 3-0 and effectively kill the game off.
Tottenham's frontline had plenty of the ball, particularly in the second half, but couldn't quite figure out what to do with it as the midfield and defensive line gave Martin Dúbravka an easy afternoon.
Emil Krafth was one of those defenders who played well and he could have scored Newcastle's fourth late on when his shot bounced off the post after he received Emerson Royal's poor clearance.
But another Newcastle defender did make it four eventually. After threatening from set-pieces all game the home side eventually scored one in the 87th minute when Fabian Schär headed in from Anthony Gordon's corner to make it 4-0.
It wasn't a scoreline that flattered Newcastle at all, they were far better than Tottenham here. Angle Postecoglou will know his team must perform better considering they have Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool next.
Newcastle meanwhile move up to sixth in the table ahead of Manchester United who have a tricky trip to Bournemouth this evening.
