West Ham recovered from falling behind early on to earn a 1-1 draw with local rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday night - Kurt Zouma's header cancelling out Brennan Johnson's fifth minute strike.
A lively atmosphere crackled around the London Stadium prior to kick-off and this London derby burst out of the blocks - the visitors taking the lead inside five minutes.
Tottenham have earned plaudits for their playing style this season under Ange Postecoglu, and their opener owed much to their impressive ability to play through midfield. James Maddison started the move with a classy exchange of passes in his own half and when Timo Werner was released on the left side of the box, the German slid in an inviting cross that Brennan Johnson deftly converted from close quarters.
Although the hosts were looking to make things happen through Mohamed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen, Spurs retained their offensive threat and almost doubled their lead courtesy of a skidding shot from outside the box from Pedro Porro, which swished dangerously past the post.
David Moyes cut a worried figure on the touchline, but on 19 minutes the Hammers equalised to cheer up their Scottish manager. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the hosts' leveller stemmed from a devilish delivery from Bowen: Kurt Zouma rising highest to flick the ball into the corner of the net.
The chances dried up to an extent in the latter part of the first half, as the game failed to deliver on its early promise.
Half-time: West Ham 1-1 Tottenham
West Ham started the brighter of the two sides after the restart, Michail Antonio firing in a shot that Guglielmo Vicario did well to keep out and then Lucas Paqueta firing over when well placed.
Antonio had a gilt-edged chance on the hour mark - the forward doing well to hold off Spurs defender Micky van de Ven, but then driving his shot straight at Vicario in the Tottenham goal.
Thereafter, Spurs very much controlled possession - at one stage averaging 93% of the ball over a 10 minute period - without managing to fashion much by way of clear-cut opportunities.
The closest the game came to a deciding goal was right near the death when Destiny Udogie drove straight at Lukasz Fabianski from around eight yards out.
Both sides seemed content with a point when the final whistle blew after four minutes of added time - Tottenham missing the opportunity to overtake fourth-placed Aston Villa in the Premier League table prior to the Villans' clash with Man City tomorrow night.
