The battle for automatic promotion from League One is reaching fever pitch with less than 10 games remaining - and the form of current leaders Portsmouth in 2024 suggests they are favourites to get over the line in May.
Last night, John Mousinho's side ground out a 2-1 win over his former side Burton Albion to bag another three points, and the victory saw Pompey clock up 30 League One points since the turn of the year.
A first-half penalty and another strike after the break from Kusini Yengi were enough to seal victory for the south coast club, who held on despite John Brayford reducing the deficit for the Brewers.
So far in 2024, only one team in the EFL has racked up more points than Portsmouth: Daniel Farke's in-form Leeds side surging up to second in the Championship after 11 wins and a draw in the second tier in the New Year.
Five points clear at the top of the table, Pompey could take a giant stride towards promotion this weekend if they beat play-off hopefuls Peterborough - particularly as their automatic promotion rivals Derby and Bolton face off against one another at Pride Park.
